In November we Remember
As a Catholic school we pause in November to remember our loved ones who have passed. Lots of classes did special art work and wrote prayers to remember those people who were close to them. We also celebrated Presentation day. The Presentation sisters were the founding order of what was Scoil Bhríde Naofa.
Preparations are well under way for Christmas nativities and celebrations and our Student Council are organising a dried food appeal for St. Vincent de Paul.
We finished out the month with class assemblies which were a wonderful show case of all the amazing work that is happening on a daily basis in every classroom. It is lovely to see the confidence and pride the children have in themselves as they perform for each other.
Science Week
We celebrated science week this month also. The children engaged in lots of hands on STEM activities to discover how the world around them works. 5th class made their own ears and learned about the effects of tooth decay. They also engaged in a Science table quiz. Mr. Killeen’s 3rd class learned about the science of flight and enjoyed flying their own kites.
Junior Entrepreneur Programme
Ms Delaney’s 5th class have set up their mini business “Terrific Treats”. The class are making Toy Show Treat boxes for the boys and girls of St. Brigid’s. This programme lets children experience entrepreneurship as they invest in their own business and encounter all the advantages and disadvantages of running a business. We also had a visit from Shourya Basu who gave his insights and advice as a business owner himself. Look out for a special delivery of these lovely products on the week of the Toy Show. Thanks to all the parents for the amazing support of the Junior Entrepreneur Programme.
Extracurricular Activities
The children continue to engage in a range of extra curricular activities from band practice and quiz club to a wide range of sporting activities including football, swimming and self defense!
Daffodil Planting
Over 500 daffodil bulbs were planted around the verges of the football pitch this month which will hopefully form a beautiful border come next Spring.
Credit Union Art Competition
Congratulations to all the children who won prizes in this year’s Credit Union Art competition. Pictured below are some of the winners from Ms. Daly’s and Ms. Henry’s classes.
