December

December has passed in a flurry of activity0 as we wrapped up Term 1 and prepared for Christmas. It was very much a month where we engaged with our local community. Our Student Council arranged a food drive for St. Vincent de Paul. Our Junior Choir supported the Kildare Branch of the Spina Bifida Association and Kare by singing in the Whitewater on two separate occasions. The school band played down in Kildare Village and joy was brought to the elderly in the Day Care centre and local nursing homes. And we cannot forget the wonderful Christmas performances by our infants and older pupils both in school and in St. Brigid’s Parish Church. They made themselves and their teachers very proud. Read on for a snippet of some of the other activities which took place this month.

Chess

Our chess team got off to a great start this term. We have over 50 pupils currently a member of St Brigid’s Chess Club from 5th and 6th class who play every Wednesday lunch time with Ms Denny and Ms Nel. We created an online chess club this year and partook in an initiative by Ficheall to play in weekly tournaments throughout the month of November. Over one thousand students from more than 100 primary schools throughout the country participated in the Ficheall’s annual series of online tournaments. Between them they played a staggering 15,246 games of chess.

Our club placed in the top 10 in all but one tournament this November. Congratulations chess team! Thank you to parents and guardian’s who helped to sign them up. We cannot wait for more fun next term.
