February Catch up

Beginning with a very special St. Brigid’s Day this year February proved to be another busy month as you can see below. Check out our Brigid 1500 page for more on St. Brigid.

Our school chess teams made us proud at the recent Féile Fichille chess tournament they competed in. The tournament is a one-day, fun-and-friendly, meet-and-greet style chess tournament organised by Ficheall; the network of primary teachers in Ireland promoting chess for the social and cognitive benefits it has for students.

We had four teams representing our school and we were very successful on the day placing 1st with our team Kings and Queens, 3rd with Checkmate Champions, 8th with Rook Warriors and 9th with The Knight Riders. We look forward to more fun filled chess games as chess club continues every Friday big lunch for 5th and 6th class students.

Thank you Tesco for your contribution from the Tesco Community Fund.

Peace Proms

On February 4th, 44 incredibly lucky children hit the road to the RDS to participate in the Peace Proms with the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland. The children performed an exciting selection of music to an audience of over 2000 people. A fantastic day was had by teachers and students alike with a little pitstop made on the way home.

Class Projects

Here are some of the amazing projects displayed in our classrooms and halls at the minute. Ms. Pearson’s class have been studying Egypt. Ms. Delaney’s class completed a project on the Irish Famine through the media of art, books, ICT or construction.

Pancake Tuesday was a big hit in Ms. Egan’s class.

Junior Infants began their Hurling classes with Christy and Dommo and they are also looking forward to watching their eggs hatch in a few weeks.

The senior boys football Mini 7’s blitz was held in the field. Our school hosted 4 schools and it was a huge success. The Senior classes also started their rugby classes.

We ended the month with our annual Scholastic book fair. It is thoroughly enjoyed the the children every year but couldn’t happen without the help of the Parent Association volunteers or be successful without the support of the school community. This year we were joined by Ms Phelan’s Junior Entrepreneurs selling their handmade bracelets.
