Cumann na mBunscoil Champions

Girls Senior Camogie Team

On the 1st of June the SBPS camogie team were crowned Cumann na mBunscoil champions after a triumphant team performance against Patrician Primary school, Newbridge. The girls started the match at a blistering pace and early scores from Isabelle Kelly, Sarah Finn and Eva Donlon settled us right into the game. The girls worked very hard to turn over the ball and win back possession time and time again. The team showcased their skills with some super passes and tackles. Due to an immense work rate by Cara Stynes, Eimear McCormack and Holly Dillon the girls kept the scores ticking over. Any ball that went down our opponents end was swiftly dealt with by our solid backline of Zoey Hogan, Holly Meenagh, Holly Kinsella, Jules Flanagan. A big well done to our goalie this season who was Sarah Walshe who always encouraged her team from the goals and kept a clean slate in the final. Millie Lenihan, Sophie Evans, Emma McMahon and Ella Bryne came on in the first half and they all made an immediate impact. The second half substitutions were as follows; Hannah Lambert, Katie Latchmudoo, Kate Keegan, Holly Lynskey, Cassie Collins,  Maeve Aucharaz, Kate Moran, Elizabeth Paneko, Giovanna Olaleye, Aela Twomey, Lacie Murphy. These girls ensured that we finished the game with the same intensity that we started with. The girls got some great scores and fought hard for every ball. A huge congratulations to all the girls on the Cuman na mbunscoil camogie team for their successful campaign this year. A special acknowledgment goes to Eva Donlon who was our captain on the day and lead by example for the entirety of the match.

Senior Girls Football Team

SBPS Girls Senior Gaelic Football Team

We were delighted to hear the news that Gaelic football training was to resume in March this year. On the first day of training, we were so thrilled to see 60+ girls arriving to the pitch after school. The girls were determined to learn and develop their football skills. A few challenge matches were set up to showcase these skills before match days, where every girl got a game. Everyone demonstrated impeccable persistence and determination.

After some hard training sessions and tough games, we found ourselves in our division final on the 11th of May against a very strong Sallins team in Moorefield. The girls were up for the challenge and were driven to show case their talents on the day. St. Brigid’s had a very strong start with Clodagh Kellett winning the ball many of times on the wing and Isabelle Kelly making some great tackles in the back line. Sallins made a comeback with a well-placed goal and from then on the game was very much end to end. However, St. Brigid’s did not give up and ensured that they could keep the ball down at the forwards. We were unfortunate with a few wides, we found the second half very tough as we were against the wind. Just as we seem to be tiring, we had some great tackles and clearances by Aoibhe Donlon and Lucy McGill. We also had some wonderful saves from our goalkeeper Mollie Doyle. With some last minute bursts from Cara Stynes and Chloe Donnelly in the midfield position and some well-played scores from Holly Dillon. Well done girls on this massive achievement, the whole school is very proud!
